Man Receives Probation After Failing To Register As A Sex Offender
Mar 04, 2016, by Case Results, Sex Crimes inIn Michigan, one of the consequences of a sex crimes conviction may be to comply with the Public Sex Offender Registry, which collects information on sex offenders in the state. Not long ago, Michigan criminal defense attorney Martin Drias assisted a man with the very serious repercussions of failing to register as a sex offender when he did not update his address after moving to a new location. Faced with this felony charge, he was understandably worried and sought out strong legal counsel because if convicted, the penalties for a habitual sex offender included up to eight years in prison.
Attorney Martin Drias represented his client and upon review felt the case was not particularly strong. Attorney Davis worked with the prosecutors and successfully negotiated the felony charges reduced to a misdemeanor level charge of failing to register as a sex offender that included a year of probation in place of time in prison. Ultimately, after his registration was sorted out and he was in compliance, the client could continue without fear of further consequences.
The outcome of an individual case depends on a variety of factors unique to that case. Case results do not guarantee or predict a similar result in any similar or future case.
