Detroit Man Charged With Prostitution Avoids Conviction And Deportation

Nov 02, 2016, by Martin Drias in Case Results, Criminal Defense, Sex Crimes

Many times in Detroit, after an undercover prostitution sting operation, a simple miscommunication between the officer and the suspect can regrettably lead to unjustified arrests. For example, a 50-year-old male immigrant was recently approached by a woman, who wound up being an undercover police officer and after a brief discussion where sexual favors were discussed, he was charged with offering to engage a prostitute. While the man claimed that he was confused by the encounter since English is not his first language, he now faced serious legal consequences which included possible deportation as well as the collateral impact to his employment and his 20-year marriage. The man was obviously humiliated and knew that if he was to avoid the harsh consequences of a prostitution conviction, he’d need to consult with a very skilled criminal defense attorney. This led him to Detroit’s Drias Law Group for a consultation.

Once attorney Martin Drias discussed the facts and gained a full understanding of the incident, it was clear that the man wanted to fight the charges. To accomplish this, attorney Davis began crafting a defense revolving around the language barrier that existed during the man’s exchange with the police. In the end, and due in large part to retaining the services of an experienced criminal defense lawyer, the charges against the man were dismissed, and he was free to resume his life in this county without suffering the aftermath of a prostitution conviction.

The outcome of an individual case depends on a variety of factors unique to that case. Case results do not guarantee or predict a similar result in any similar or future case.
